On Monday, December 20th, Eric and I took Elina to her first pediatrician appointment. There was a little mix up at the hospital about who was going to be her doctor, but we ended up getting Dr. George Skarpathiotis (aka Dr. George) to be her doctor. This was awesome as we wanted the boys to see him when we moved here but he wasn't taking any new patients at the time.
Elina weighted 7 lbs 1 oz at the appointment-an increase of three ounces from her discharge weight of 6 lbs 14 oz. The weight increase was pretty good since she had just been home for the weekend. Dr. Skarpathiotis did the checkup and noted she was in "excellent health." Yaaay!
Dr. Skarpathiotis is a Greek doctor (kinda goes without saying with a name like that) who has the happiest disposition and is great with kids. He has a very thick accent and says the funniest things. During the appointment, he kept giving us advice like, "The best marital advice I can give is to know that your wife is always right. I learned that 20 years ago and ever since have had a happy marriage." Hehehe!
Oh, Dr. Skarpathiotis gave us the strangest remedy for diaper rash that works wonders! It reminds me of the dad on My Big Fat Greek Wedding who would put Windex on everything. Anyway, he recommended putting Mylanta on the baby's bum with a cotton pad (you know, the kind you take your eye makeup off with). Leave that on for an hour and them put on Aquaphor. This healed Elina's diaper rash faster than anything else I've tried before.
Elina (so far) is a very easy and happy baby. I'm not sure if it's because the whole newborn thing is still so fresh for me, but she just seems so easy! Or maybe it's just having one infant this time. It really hasn't been difficult to add her to our family mix. We just love her so much!
